I have been trying to figure out how to pose my questions without sounding ridiculously silly for having planned a trip that is now causing me much anxiety. I guess I just need to ask. I have no idea why it didn't occur to me until recently that the roads in the park are mountain roads! Once I realized it I have been researching to try and determine just how scary they are. I know "scary" is a relative term and many people are not bothered by the roads at all. I have traveled through much of Colorado on past vacations and driven actually a passenger on some in my opinion very scary roads and I am just wondering how Trail Ridge Road and the roads in Estes Park and the drive from Denver to Estes Park compare to others in Colorado. I never made it to Pikes Peak

I'm wondering how long on average the drive on Trail Ridge Road from the east entrance near Estes Park to Grand lake will take.

The road system of Rocky Mountain National Park offers visitors access to diverse ecosystems characterizing the higher regions of the central Rocky Mountains. The roads take visitors through lowland meadows and aspen groves, along swift-flowing rivers and up through subalpine forests to more than 12, feet in elevation. No other national park roads offer the dramatic experience of a long drive across alpine tundra region, and few offer such a wide variety of experiences. The careful relationship of the park roads to the landscape results in a road system that generally harmonizes with the environment. Roadway alignments were chosen to highlight natural features, and scenic vistas and overlooks were provided to allow visitors to take in the magnificent terrain.
