In Santee and South Bay , there exists a piece of Americana that time almost forgot, the drive-in movie theatre. With multiple screens, state-of-the-art projectors, and San Diego's average 70 degree weather, these theaters offer the perfect night for families, cheap first dates, or for long-time lovers looking to rekindle their youth. Ticket prices are less than the multiplexes and so are the concessions. You can either buy popcorn and candy from the drive-in or bring your own. Opened in , the South Bay Drive-in Theatre shows two movies on each of its three screens. Movies are shown daily, year-round.
Most drive-ins are substantially cheaper than ordinary theaters, and movie-goers can bring their own comfortable chairs and use their cell phone all they like. Even better, there are no sticky floors or mysterious substances on the seats. While some of the drive-ins on our list have been around for more than half a century, others were built in the last decade, and one was built just last year. Most have a cool retro atmosphere and are open roughly from Memorial Day until Labor Day, making them the perfect low-key summer outing for almost anyone. This classic drive-in theater, located in Orefield, Pennsylvania, claims to be America's oldest: It's been in continuous operation since , according to its website. Open April through September depending on the weather , this local institution still draws sizable crowds of moviegoers each weekend and shows no signs of closing anytime soon. The Warwick Drive-In has been going strong since , although it's changed hands quite a few times since then.

Child tickets are valid for children years of age.
Will be in San Diego end of April. One of the things that my wife and I have enjoyed for years is visiting various drive-in movie theatres all across the country. Was curious what anyone could tell me about drive-ins in the SD area. An internet search shows that there may be at least two in the area that are still open, one in Santee and one in South Bay. Know of any more?
